The colophon

How this site was made, and who to credit.

A colophon is the closing note of a book or a magazine — the page that tells you which typefaces set the headlines, who printed it, and where the paper came from. Midtown Meetup keeps one because the website is built like the bar-dega: small, careful, made by people whose names you can know.

I.

Typography.

  • Display. Fraunces, by Phaedra Charles and Undercase Type. A variable serif with real optical sizes that reads warm at every weight.
  • Body. Source Serif 4, by Frank Grießhammer for Adobe. A modern transitional serif tuned for screens.
  • Labels and microcopy. JetBrains Mono, by Philipp Nurullin and Konstantin Bulenkov.
  • All three typefaces are open source and served via Google Fonts.
II.

Color.

  • Anchor. #1B1A17 — a near-black with warmth in it, for type and the wordmark.
  • Paper. #F5EFE0 — a warm cream, the visual equivalent of an afternoon on the porch with the door open.
  • Accent one. #CC5A2A — a sun-warm orange, a nod to the loaded potato.
  • Accent two. #35513B — a deep neighborhood green for a second emphasis.
III.

Code & hosting.

  • Built on WordPress with the Twenty Twenty-Five theme, customized for Midtown Meetup.
  • Hosted on Pressable, Washington DC datacenter.
  • Square Online provides the live menu, the events calendar, and the reservations layer at midtownmeetup.square.site.
  • The TONIGHT strip at the top of every page is computed live in the browser, no server call required.
IV.

Photographs.

The photographs on this website will be Midtown Meetup’s own, taken in the room, of the people who fill it. Until those are placed, the typographic plates you see are intentional placeholders — magazine-style stand-ins for forthcoming images by Mia Cortez and friends, summer 2026.

V.

Words.

All written copy is in the Professor Good voice tuned for a neighborhood bar-dega. The brand idea, the visual identity, and the writing standards live in the Midtown Meetup Master Plan and Execution Manual. The voice is influenced, gratefully, by Fran Lebowitz, Martha Stewart, Scott Galloway, and John Lennon, set down in the easy fond register of a New York Times arts and culture journalist.
